The poem “A Tree Full of Monkeys” is one of Peter’s classics and has been acclaimed by many as his best work so far. The title was inspired whilst the poet was viewing icons in the crypt of Glenstal Abbey. The poem “Oweenee” from this collection was based on the Biblical book of Ruth, but transferred to Ireland and the USA at the time of the American Civil War. There is, of course, the usual blend of light hearted humour running through many of the other works in the download.
